Emperor Charles I Sirius “the Bold”
Charles “the Bold” was born on the 11th of June 1117 in Alparis, to Emperor and Empress Philip I and Charlotte Gerarinian. As the second son, he was overshadowed by his brother’s destiny to become Emperor. He spent his early years traveling around his war-torn country, helping settlements rebuild with the coin he earned himself by competing in tournaments. He was reported to be very angry when his sister was married off to the Prince of Holland, as he was of the opinion that she should marry local nobility. Emperor Philip, his father, did not agree with this sentiment and the two had a falling out around the time. We know that Emperor Charles “the Bold” lead regular correspondence with his little sister, Princess Antoinette. Charles “the Bold” began behaving much more favorably once he realized his brother’s age and his heirless state. During his last years, Emperor Torrino II remarked that “there was no warmer or kinder man in all of France.” Upon his wounding in the Battle of Rosewood in 1156, Torrino II assigned Charles as his regent and heir, should anything happen to him. Suspiciously, Torrino II’s condition never improved and he died in his sleep on the 23rd of December 1157. And so, Emperor Charles “the Bold’s” reign begins in 1157 and would last until his death in 1168, during the Fall of Rosewood. His reign was short and unmemorable. His strategy for ending the war was an attempt to beat the Germans into submission through attrition. He fortified Rosewood’s position and stationed his levy there, repelling half a dozen sieges, but on the 15th of August 1168, the City Walls gave in and fell to the attacking army. It was on this day that Charles “the Bold” was immortalized with his “Good men of France” speech which he used to rally the citizens of Rosewood for one final desperate defense. Charles “the Bold” married Princess Georgina Dover and sired two children with her. Prince Philip Sirius and Prince Louis Sirius. Charles I’s death combined with the fall of the Capital left the country in ruin and his family on the run. He would be the last Sirius Emperor. May he rest in peace.
